If you’re big into VR gaming, you will not want to miss the upcoming VR Gaming Showcase announced by Oculus. The VR showcase will be the first of its kind for the Facebook-run company, founded in 2012.
Since 2014, Oculus has held their annual Oculus Connect event. Mixing in new titles, Oculus apps, software, and hardware, Oculus Connect covers it all. But while the Oculus Quest 2 launched last October along with several new game announcements, there hasn’t been a full showcase dedicated exclusively to upcoming VR content until now. There are several hotly anticipated games in the works; even Ubisoft and Oculus’ new titles for Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell were announced in September 2020, however there have been little updates mentioned since then. Hopefully the Oculus Showcase will change that!
No one knows for sure everything that what will be showcased at the online event, but there is much buzz surrounding the announced developers and updates for their games. The developers announced so far include Cloudhead Games, makers of Pistol Whip; Ready at Dawn, responsible for Lone Echo; and ILMxLAB, creators of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge.
Cloudhead promises an update of Pistol Whip and maybe a preview of their upcoming campaign-driven DLC, and we know plenty of fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Lone Echo 2, announced by Ready at Dawn way back in 2018. The title unfortunately still doesn’t have a solid release date due to development delays most likely from the pandemic. Looking forward to that update! As for Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, Part 1 was released last year, but they haven’t been heavy on details regarding Part 2 just yet, so that’s what we’ll be waiting for.
Other games and developers announced in the lineup are updates from Skydance developers regarding The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners; Vertigo Games, presumably discussing After The Fall; and Fast Travel Games, most likely diving into talk of their game launching April 22nd: Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife.
On their official announcement page, Oculus promises “new updates to fan-favorite titles, never-before-seen footage from some unreleased games, and a few surprises in store.”
The Oculus VR Gaming Showcase will take place on Wednesday, April 21st at 3PM PT, streaming on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook.
