We know your sweaty hands are an issue if you're a Gamer Goo customer or a potential one. Maybe you use Gamer Goo for long gaming sessions, or maybe you use it for interviews or even the gym. But if your sweat is getting in the way of normal situations and interactions with others, you might have hyperhidrosis.
Hyperhidrosis, usually known as excessive sweating (obvs), is more common than you think. Approximately 2-3% of Americans suffer from the disease in some form. There are two types of hyperhidrosis - primary focal hyperhidrosis, in which the symptoms occur without being caused by a medical condition, as well as not being a side effect of medications. This type of hyperhidrosis happens on specific parts of the body, and is usually symmetrical, meaning both hands, underarms, feet, etc., are affected in a similar way. It's also the type that runs in the family. Thanks, genes!
And then there's secondary generalized hyperhidrosis, which is caused from a medication or a corresponding illness. Those with secondary will usually have sweating in larger areas of the body, such as their entire chest or back.
A few differences:
A big difference between the two is that most people with primary focal hyperhidrosis don't sweat during sleep, whereas those with secondary generalized hyperhidrosis will continue to do so.
Primary focal hyperhidrosis begins in childhood or adolescence, while secondary generalized hyperhidrosis usually starts in adulthood.
If you think you have hyperhidrosis, don't be ashamed to reach out for help. It's important to find a good dermatologist for primary focal hyperhidrosis, and a primary care physician for secondary generalized.
With secondary, a doctor can help you pinpoint the exact cause of your sweating, but some common ones may be on this massive list of prescription drugs that list it as a possible side effect; or on this massive list of diseases and ailments.
We're putting this out there to inform and educate, and to let you know you're not alone if your sweating has become a problem. Gamer Goo can help both types of hyperhidrosis sufferers go about their day to day business without sweat getting in the way.
